Dr. Monideepa Becerra is a Professor (with tenure) at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB). She has a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Policy, Doctor of Public Health in Health Education (DrPH), and certificate in Health Geo Informatics from Loma Linda University, School of Public Health. She is also a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES).
Dr. Becerra was competitively selected as a Fellow for the 2020-2022 Center for Civic Policy & Leadership Healing Communities through Racial Justice, for instituting organizational level changes addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion. She was also competitively selected as a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Diversity Fellow, during which she worked at William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital, Department of Research, Madison, Wisconsin, on infectious disease epidemiology.
Dr. Becerra's primary research emphasis is on the intesectionality of social determinants of health. She has published over40 peer-reviewed articles, two book chapters, and presented over 65 scholarly abstracts/presentations. She has mentored over 45 undergraduate and graduate students in research and has a record of serving as a research and professional mentor for national mentorship programs, including the Network for Public Health Law, Hispanic Serving Health Professions Schools, and Asian & Pacific Islander Caucus for Public Health-American Public Health Association.
In the community, Dr. Becerra also has a history of service, including board member of LGBTQ Advisory Committee for American Lung Association, South Asian Public Health Association, Randall Lewis Health Policy Fellowship, among others. She also has a strong track record of leadership positions, including Executive Director and Director for the Center for Health Equity, MPH Program Director, Coordinator for the Bachelor of Science in Health Science with concentration in Public Health Education, Chair of accreditation committee for public health programs, Coordinator for the Health Equity certificate, Chair of Graduate Council, Interim Director of Teaching Resource Center, among others. She is also a member of several national organizations, including Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society.
Dr. Becerra has received over 35 of grants and awards for her research and service, including Inland Empire HIV Planning Council and California's Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program (TRDRP),and has been invited by local and national organizations, including American Heart Association-Inland Empire, ReachOut, and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), to lead discussions on health disparities among vulnerable populations.
